The multi-trunk tree root ball is set two inches above finish grade in a plant pit featuring angled sides and a sloped bottom over undisturbed soil. The top one-third of the wire basket and burlap is removed, and fertilizer tablets are placed within the amended backfill below a two-inch layer of mulch. Four pressure-treated two-by-four timbers run both ways across the root ball, secured by stainless steel cables anchored to four concrete deadmen in the surrounding soil. An auger hole is provided below the root ball when required per specifications.
