The finished grade surface is topped with a two-inch layer of mulch above six inches of topsoil. Below the topsoil lies eighteen inches of horticultural subsoil resting on an undisturbed or compacted subgrade. The transition zones between the subsoil and adjacent layers are scarified to improve bonding. Total soil depth measures two feet.
