Concrete paving slabs meet at an isolation joint doweled with sleeves spaced at eighteen inches on center. A joint filler strip with a backer rod and sealant fills the three-eighths-inch gap, finished with a typical one-quarter-inch radius at the edge. Mason sand is installed on top of the sealant before the sealant cures. The concrete paving rests on aggregate base and compacted subgrade.
