The planting pit is excavated to twice the width of the rootball with a scarified bottom and sides, featuring a mounded soil rest for the rootball. The shrub crown is set one inch above the finish grade within a prepared backfill mix amended per planting notes. Plant tablets with mycorrhizal fungi are placed in the pit alongside the rootball. A three-inch minimum depth mulch layer is spread around the plant while keeping a three-inch clearance from the trunk. Soil is bermed three inches high to form a watering basin at the finish grade.
