A 1-inch moist and cool sod roll is laid on a misted level topsoil bed over 4 inches of topsoil, which sits on 2 inches of topsoil tilled into the top 3 inches of fine graded ground over a sub-base. A curb or metal edging acts as a separator between the sod and the adjacent planting bed. The planting bed consists of 3 inches of organic or inorganic mulch placed over a weed barrier fabric, resting on 4 inches of topsoil and 2 inches of tilled topsoil over the sub-base.
