A tree planting pit features a subdrainage system consisting of a six-inch perforated pipe bedded within a one-foot-wide crushed stone trench. A drainage course layer sits directly above the subgrade and wraps around the drainage trench, sloped at five percent toward the drain. Planting soil fills the main excavation area above the drainage course to accommodate the root ball. Compacted subgrade surrounds the entire pit installation per civil drawings.
