An underground utility trench is excavated beneath new pavement and aggregate base, maintaining a twenty-one inch minimum trench width to allow for compaction to ninety-five percent. A mainline or lateral line sits within a protective sleeve sized at twice the pipe size at the bottom of the trench, adjacent to a conduit for control wires sized as needed. The trench requires an eighteen-inch minimum depth below the aggregate base, backfilled and compacted up to the base course.
