A steel side plate connects to a glulam timber beam using a three-quarter inch diameter lag screw with an unthreaded shank and standard washer. A two and five-eighths inch diameter shear plate seats into the timber, requiring predrilled grooves made with a dapping tool per the manufacturer's instructions. The lag screw requires a one-inch minimum unthreaded shank, a three-inch minimum embedment, and a two-inch minimum for threads plus tip. Predrill a thirteen-sixteenths inch diameter hole at the lag screw shank and a lead hole at the threads ranging from forty to seventy percent of the shank diameter.
