The existing slope is cut back to a maximum ratio of one to one and a half. The planting pit excavation width is sized to two times the diameter of the root ball. The root ball is set with the root flare one inch above the finish grade. All binding materials are cut and removed from the top and sides of the root ball prior to backfilling. Backfill mix is placed up to finish grade and topped with mulch, keeping mulch one inch away from the trunk. Two supporting posts and ties stabilize the tree against the slope.
