Cast-in-place concrete flatwork requires properly detailed control and construction joints to manage cracking and panel movement over a compacted subgrade and crushed rock base. The control joint detail shows a sawcut or formed groove measuring one-fourth of the slab depth with a quarter-inch rounded edge, free of shiners or tool marks. The construction joint detail connects a first and second concrete pour using number four tie bars cast into the first pour at twelve inches on center. Finished grades alongside the slab accommodate varying depths for mulch, lawn, or planting soil.
