Concrete slab depression transitions are designated as D. For depressions less than four inches, typical slab reinforcement continues through the transition slope with a minimum eight-inch offset and one-foot transition zone. For depressions ranging from four inches to twelve inches, additional reinforcement includes number four continuous bars and number five bars at eighteen inches on center. The sloped transition matches the size and spacing of typical slab reinforcement over a two-foot run with an eight-inch minimum dimension at the lower slab level. Architectural drawings should be consulted for specific edge conditions.
