The shrub is set with the base of its root flare at the top of the soil, resting on compacted fill or undisturbed subgrade within a planting pit sized one and a half times the rootball diameter. All wrappings are removed from the rootball prior to setting. The planting pit sides and the top of the fill or compacted subgrade are scarified. Planting soil fills the pit to finish grade, topped with a three-inch layer of mulch.
