The root ball is set on undisturbed subgrade with the top positioned four inches above the finished grade, surrounded by angled and sloped pit walls. Burlap, twine, and wire are cut and removed from the top two-thirds of the rootball, and wire baskets are removed completely before placing the tree. Amended planting mix is backfilled, watered, and tamped to remove air pockets, and finished with a layer of mulch as specified. Two-by-two-inch hardwood stakes are driven a minimum of eighteen inches firmly into the subgrade prior to backfilling and secured above the first branches using arbor tie woven polypropylene guying material nailed to the stakes.
