Shrub planting on a slope features the planting pit excavated to twice the diameter of the root ball. The root ball is set flush with the finish grade after cutting and removing all binding materials from its top and sides. Backfill mix is placed around the root ball and finished with mulch kept one inch away from the trunk. The existing slope is cut back to a maximum of one to one and a half.
