An expansion joint assembly features a pre-molded backer rod set three-quarters of an inch below the finish grade, topped with a sealant joint with a tooled edge set one-eighth of an inch below the finish grade. A one-quarter-inch thick layer of brush joint filler sand aligns with the adjacent finish grade. The joint interfaces with a vertical surface sized per the site plan and aligns with adjacent material per the materials plan.
