This cross-section details the multi-layer soil profile for an athletic field installation. The topmost layer features drill-seeded turf planted in a nine-inch root zone mix. Below the root zone mix lies a three-inch layer of coarse sand. The base layer consists of a graded subgrade that is scarified to an eight-inch depth after grading and compaction, with two and a half inches of compost incorporated into the subgrade. The subgrade is sloped to match the finish grade per plan.
