Two wooden stakes are placed on opposing sides no closer than twelve inches from the edge of the rootball, aligned parallel with the direction of prevailing wind. The height of each stake above finished grade extends equal to the first branch of the tree. A trunk guard wraps the central leader below the first branch. Three-quarter-inch flat woven polypropylene strapping rated for nine-hundred-pound loads loops around the central leader below the first branch, providing one strap per stake. Heavy-duty steel staples attach the strapping to each wooden stake.
