Standard installation for deciduous trees requires root ball excavation to twice the ball diameter with a native soil base. Wire baskets are cut and removed while burlap is trimmed close to firmness of the root ball. The backfill mixture consists of seventy-five percent native soil and twenty-five percent topsoil, topped with a custom topsoil blend. The tree base is maintained one to two inches higher than existing grade to accommodate settlement, and a three-inch mulch layer is pulled one foot away from the trunk. Two two-inch diameter round fir posts secured with one-inch diameter cinch ties provide temporary support and are scheduled for removal after the first year.
