Gravel paving consists of aggregate set in a porous paving system over filter fabric, a four-inch minimum gravel layer, and Caltrans Class 2 aggregate base compacted to ninety-five percent over compacted subgrade. An aggregate base depth schedule specifies six inches for pedestrian areas and eight inches for vehicular traffic. A redwood header provides edge restraint, extending one-half inch above the finish grade and retaining the adjacent planting area with a three-inch depth of mulch. A two percent minimum slope drains the gravel surface away from the edge.
