Three five-eighth-inch by eight-foot copper clad grounding rods or grounding plates are driven into the soil in a triangular pattern spaced a minimum of sixteen feet apart from each other. Solid bare copper wire of number ten American Wire Gauge connects the grounding rods to each other and extends to the irrigation controller per plan, keeping the run as short and straight as possible. Each grounding rod is secured with a ground rod clamp or welds and enclosed within a ten-inch round valve box with a four-inch minimum clearance below the finish grade. The complete grounding grid must achieve a resistance of ten ohms or less.
