Utility boring near trees requires maintaining a specific depth below existing grade and a minimum horizontal distance from the trunk based on trunk caliper. A six-inch shredded mulch layer covers the ground surface above the root system. The boring depth ranges from twenty-four inches minimum to forty-eight inches maximum. The edge of the bore closest to the trunk must be located at a distance of six inches per caliper inch for trees greater than ten inches in caliper, with a five-foot minimum.
