The planting pit is excavated to twice the diameter of the root ball with the root ball installed flush with the finish grade. All binding is cut and removed from the top and sides of the root ball before backfilling with the specified backfill mix. A three-inch high watering basin is formed at the surface with mulch applied while keeping one inch away from the trunk.
