An electrical grounding assembly for an irrigation controller incorporates a 4-inch by 96-inch by 0.0625-inch copper ground plate and a five-eighth-inch diameter by 10-foot long UL-listed copper-clad grounding rod. A number 6 AWG solid bare copper wire connects the copper ground plate to the grounding rod and the irrigation controller via cadweld connections. Earth contact material power set is applied around the copper plate with a 100-pound power set soil amendment. The grounding rod is installed below finish grade with a minimum depth of 30 inches, and the entire system requires testing to achieve a maximum resistance of 10 ohms or less.
