Evergreen trees are installed with the top of the root ball positioned four inches above the finished grade. Burlap is stripped from the top one-third of the root ball and all synthetic materials or wire baskets are removed prior to backfilling with amended planting mix. Guy wires and stakes or hardwood stakes are secured to provide firm support, with angle cuts applied to sides and the bottom of the pit sloped. Mulch is applied as specified over the existing soil and backfilled root ball.
