An expansion joint between adjacent concrete slabs is formed with a one-half-inch joint width. A preformed filler material fills the depth of the joint between the slab edges. A backer rod is positioned near the top of the joint above the preformed filler. The joint is sealed at the surface with sanded caulk finished in a concave profile.
