Two root watering units are positioned on either side of the tree at a minimum distance of twenty-four inches from the trunk, with their tops installed even with the finish grade and top of mulch. Three-quarter-inch gravel is placed under and around each unit to facilitate water infiltration and root penetration. The basket of each unit is filled with pea gravel before locking the vandal-resistant grate. A swing assembly and one-half-inch male National Pipe Thread inlet connect each unit to a polyvinyl chloride schedule forty tee or elbow on the lateral pipe. An optional sand sock is installed around the unit, and the tree root ball sits at finish grade.
