Shrubs are installed in a dedicated plant bed mix placed over scarified and recompacted subgrade that slopes to follow finish grades. The root flare or collar is set level with the finished grade, maintaining a minimum depth of one foot for the planting soil mix. A three-inch deep layer of mulch is applied across the bed while keeping the root flare uncovered. Plant spacing follows the dimensions indicated on the plans or the plant list.
