The subgrade is compacted and shaped with a two percent minimum typical slope toward subsurface ridgelines. Sand is placed to a twelve-inch minimum depth, held one-half inch below the top of the header, and kept level in designated areas. Turf is held one inch below the top of the header adjacent to the six-inch wide concrete flush curb. Sand must be clean of all silt, clay, and organic matter, measuring between 0.5 and 1 mm in diameter.
