An offset steel beam connects to a hollow structural section column using an L8x6x7/16 by zero-foot-ten-inch angle centered on the hollow structural section with a three-eighths-inch plate on each side. A three-quarter-inch-diameter A325 bolt in a long vertical slot is installed finger-tight with double nuts, allowing vertical movement with a one-half-inch clearance. A quarter-inch fillet weld is applied to three sides of the connection angle. An alternate offset beam connection utilizes L4x4x1/4 angles on each side of the post with a similar slotted bolt assembly. The hollow structural section column base plate detail shows a square base plate anchored with four anchor bolts and three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds on three sides.
