The grass plug is installed with its root crown set two inches above the finish grade, surrounded by a three-inch mulch layer and a continuous three-inch hand-shaped topsoil berm or backfill basin. The planting pit is excavated to twice the width of the rootball in amended backfill, with three fertilizer tablets spaced triangularly within the soil. All sides of the planting hole and the existing soil at the base are scarified before placement over undisturbed subgrade. General notes require removing the container before planting, compacting the soil around the rootball, and thoroughly soaking the plant with a fine mist after installation.
