Proper installation and guying method for a multi-trunk tree within a plant pit featuring angled sides and a sloped bottom. The top of the root ball is set two inches above the finish grade, surrounded by amended backfill placed over undisturbed soil with an auger hole. Packaging materials are removed prior to planting. Three guying cables are secured with deadmen anchors and attached to the tree trunks using new rubber hoses snug around the crotches to protect the bark. The trunk flare remains visible above the mulch layer, which starts three inches from the stem and tapers to a depth of three inches.
