The shrub is set with its root flare two inches higher than the finish grade to allow for settling, resting on undisturbed subgrade with the root ball wrapping material removed except underneath. Planting soil mix surrounds the root ball within the excavated pit, while mulch of specified type and depth is applied at the surface while kept four inches away from the trunk. A surrounding soil berm forms a depressed watering basin to aid in initial establishment, and watering is performed by filling the planting pit with water using a hose or bucket. The watering basin is removed prior to the end of the maintenance period.
