Adjacent cast-in-place concrete paving slabs are separated by an elastomeric expansion joint material extending to the bottom of the concrete pour. A greased stainless steel dowel, eight inches long and spaced at eighteen inches on center, spans the joint to provide load transfer while permitting movement. A round backer rod sits below the joint opening, which is sealed with a color-matched elastomeric sealant. The concrete edges feature a typical one-quarter inch rounded radius, with the joint width maintained at a maximum of three-eighths of an inch.
