A landscape island section is bounded by concrete curbs and adjacent asphalt paving. The subgrade beneath the island requires scarification to a depth of six inches, backfilled with imported topsoil as specified. The topsoil is graded to establish a crown as indicated, with five percent slopes draining toward the edges. Sod is set flush with the top of the curb while mulch is maintained one inch below the curb top. Additional asphalt or concrete is removed as required to install irrigation heads adjacent to the curb.
