Shrubs are installed vertically into a prepared planting hole with sides and bottom roughened, maintaining a rootball width of twice the minimum and six inches minimum depth. The uppermost root sits no more than one inch below the soil surface, surrounded by backfilled soil removed from the hole and a layer of prepared planting soil. A top layer of mulch and compost feathers to the base of the plant. Soil is mounded at the dripline to form a minimum four-inch high watering well.
