A five-eighths-inch by ten-foot copper-clad grounding rod is driven into the soil below a ten-inch round valve box set flush with finish grade. A solid bare copper wire of number ten American Wire Gauge connects the irrigation controller to the grounding rod via ground rod clamps or welds, kept as short and straight as possible. A bare copper wire of number six American Wire Gauge minimum extends from the grounding rod to a copper grounding plate surrounded by ground enhancement material. Grounding rods are installed in a triangular pattern spaced a minimum of sixteen feet apart, maintaining a grounding grid resistance of ten ohms or less.
