The expansion joint assembly consists of concrete paving slabs separated by a one-eighth inch joint and bearing on a half-inch thick pre-molded expansion joint filler. A number four steel slip dowel spaced at twenty-four inches on center spans the joint at the midpoint of the slab depth. The joint is sealed at the top with a caulked backer rod, with the caulk color matching the concrete and measuring one-quarter to three-eighths of an inch wide over the top of the expansion filler.
