A six-inch by six-inch wood post is embedded into an eighteen-inch diameter cast-in-place concrete footing extending four feet below finished grade. The base of the post rests on eight inches of non-frost susceptible fill at the bottom of the excavation. The top of the concrete footing is sloped away from the post to promote drainage. Finished grade meets the top of the concrete pier.
