A two-inch square hollow structural section bears directly on top of a concrete retaining wall. A horizontal wood deck member fastens to the hollow structural section using a countersunk wood screw finished with a wood plug. A vertical wood deck fascia piece fastens to the side of the hollow structural section using a countersunk wood screw and plug. A one-eighth inch joint separates the horizontal and vertical wood elements.
