The soil profile consists of an eighteen-inch total depth divided into a six-inch layer of topsoil and a one-foot layer of horticultural subsoil over an undisturbed or compacted subgrade. A gopher wire mesh is installed between the topsoil and subsoil layers. The surface at the transition zone between subsoil and subgrade is scarified. Finished grade marks the top of the topsoil layer.
