The root ball is set two inches higher than the finish grade on undisturbed subgrade to allow for proper settling, with wrapping material removed except directly beneath the ball. Planting soil mix fills the excavated pit, surrounded by a sloped berm forming a depressed watering basin to retain moisture. Mulch is applied over the soil mix while maintaining a four-inch clearance from the trunk. The watering basin is shaped above the slope grade and is specified for removal prior to the end of the maintenance period.
