An irrigation trench is excavated and backfilled beneath finish grade in lawn areas, maintaining a five-inch deep topsoil layer over compacted backfill. The trench accommodates a PVC mainline and a PVC lateral line, which is set eighteen inches deep for rotor and impact head installations. Two inches of sand or rock-free soil surround all pipe within the bedding zone. Control wires are taped to the side of the main line at ten feet on center, maintaining a specified vertical separation between pipes and a two-inch horizontal separation.
