Planting beds are laid out with a continuous outer row at a specified distance on center, set back from the edge of the planting bed or pavement by two-thirds of the recommended spacing or eight inches minimum, whichever is greater. Interior plants are arranged in a triangular spacing pattern throughout the bed, leaving an interior area designated for spacing adjustments.
