The tree crown and trunk are prepared according to specifications with irrigation located per irrigation plans. The crown of the rootball is set three inches above the finish grade, surrounded by a three-inch layer of mulch kept six inches clear from the tree trunk. The root ball rests within amended backfill mix placed over undisturbed soil or compacted subgrade below and at the sides of the plant pit. A twelve-inch diameter by four-to-six-foot deep auger hole is backfilled with three-quarter-inch drain rock per project arborist requirements. Notes specify consistent tree species size and shape, selection at nursery by owner or landscape architect, no staking required per project arborist, root barrier installation adjacent to walks and walls as required, and container boxes underneath the root ball for trees larger than forty-eight-inch box.
