A copper ground plate measuring 4 inches by 96 inches by 0.0625 inches is installed below finish grade alongside a 5/8-inch diameter by 10-foot long UL-listed copper-clad grounding rod. A number 6 AWG solid bare copper wire connects the components using Cadweld connections, running through a 1-inch or larger PVC sweep elbow to an irrigation controller housed in a 10-inch round valve box. Earth contact material is placed at the plate per manufacturer recommendations within a designated electric sphere of influence measuring 1.5 feet by 24 inches and 10 feet in diameter. The installation must achieve a maximum resistance of 10 ohms or less, with no other wires or cables installed within the sphere of influence.
