The planting pit is excavated to a width equal to one and one-half times the rootball width, containing a central rootball surrounded by a backfill mix. A perforated watering pipe extends thirty-six inches deep alongside the rootball and is enclosed by gravel backfill. The soil surface is finished with a watering basin berm and mulch layer over existing site soil.
