An isolation valve connects to the PVC mainline using schedule 80 PVC threaded nipples and female adaptors on both sides of the valve, matching the mainline size. Schedule 80 PVC unions are installed on either side with nipple lengths adjusted to allow removal of the union nut. The valve sits inside a ten-inch round valve box extending up to the finish grade, supported by precast concrete pavers and a three-quarter-inch washed gravel bed within the box and under the blocks. A two-inch class 200 PVC sleeve is installed over brass isolation valves placed at depths of eighteen inches or deeper.
