The tree is planted with its root flare set even with finish grade plus one inch. A two-inch layer of mulch is placed around the tree and held away from the tree flare. A temporary soil saucer is constructed for watering and removed prior to surface finishing. The root ball rests on a prepared planting soil bed above subdrainage.
