Two lodgepole pine peeled tree stakes are installed in line perpendicular to prevailing winds, positioned below the first major tree branching with a minimum two-inch diameter. Four corded rubber tree straps form a figure eight and are nailed to each side of the stakes with one-inch galvanized roofing nails. The rootball is set two inches higher than the surrounding grade within a plant hole excavated twice the width of the rootball and at the same depth. Backfill and fertilizer are applied per planting notes over scarified bottom and sides of the plant pit. A four-inch watering basin berm is provided, omitted in lawn areas, along with a three-inch thick bark mulch layer kept three inches away from the tree trunk to prevent rot.
