A tree is planted within a parking island with its root flare set one inch above finish grade and surrounded by a three-inch layer of bark mulch held back six inches from the trunk. Two vertical stakes support the tree trunk with ties. The root ball rests on subgrade and is bounded by twenty-four-inch deep linear plastic root barriers on both sides of the parking island. An adjacent four-inch perforated drain line with three-quarter-inch crushed drain rock wrapped in filter fabric connects to the stormdrain system. The assembly is framed by a concrete curb and asphaltic concrete pavement.
